Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) is a common skin condition that affects 1 in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults in the UK.
The symptoms include itchy, dry, cracked and weeping skin and at times the condition can temporarily worsen, known as a flare up. There is no known cure for eczema, but it can be managed by reducing stress, environmental stressors, eliminating certain foods and with the right topical products.
Steroid creams are often prescribed which can be incredibly harsh. They can cause permanent lightening and thinning of the skin. Long term use can trigger TSW (topical steroid withdrawal) as a result of being too reliant on steroids for long term results.
